Everything on this site is general information for adults. It isn't legal advice, medical advice or encouragement to break the law.
The law
Psilocybin and psilocyn, the active compounds in magic mushrooms, are Schedule I controlled substances under federal law and under California law. Possessing, selling, transporting, mailing or growing them is a crime in San Diego County and everywhere else in California. A few California cities have voted to make personal use a low police priority, but that doesn't make it legal, and we found no city in San Diego County that has done even that. No state allows psilocybin to be sold by mail. Our guide to legal options in California and penalties page explains the details with sources.
Not legal or medical advice
We explain laws, studies and news as accurately as we can, with dates and sources, but laws change and every situation is different. Nothing here creates an attorney-client or clinician-patient relationship. For a legal problem, talk to a criminal defense attorney. For a health decision, talk to a clinician, especially if you take medication or have a personal or family history of psychosis or bipolar disorder.
Risks are real
Psilocybin can cause intense fear, confusion and dangerous behavior, can interact with some medications, and isn't right for everyone. Products sold as "magic mushroom" gummies or chocolates have been found to contain other drugs entirely. If something goes wrong, call 911, or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. Our help page lists San Diego crisis services.
Our ties to a shop
This site is published by the team that runs My Mushroom Dispensary, an online shop for adults 21 and older. The home page and a few guides mention it in clearly marked cards with a disclosure line. Our about page explains the relationship.
